We are here at your Service

The Consular Affairs Unit of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs safeguards the interest and safety of Sierra Leone Citizens abroad. The Department can be reached all year round, 24 hours a day.The Sierra Leone citizens who are in distress or other difficulties can obtain assistance from the Sierra Leone Consular Department in the Sierra Leone Foreign Ministry or Sierra Leone Foreign Missions.   • Advice and information
  • Reissuing of lost or stolen Sierra Leone passports
  • Measures in connection with serious illness or death of a Sierra Leone citizen abroad
  • Measures in connection with major accidents and disasters involving Sierra Leone citizens abroad


Requirements for repatriating Human Remains

  • Death certificate
  • Burial/Transit permit
  • Certification from the treating doctor/Health department stating that the deceased did not have any contagious disease
  • Certificate from the embalmer
  • Copy of itinerary
  • Valid Republic of Sierra Leone Passport (If the individual did not have a current passport, an Emergency Travel Certificate will have to be obtained.)
  • NOTE: We understand that it can be difficult to obtain passport size photos of the deceased; therefore, any two photographs showing full face can be accepted
